Hardy Mill Road and Arthur Lane to be closed for vital works

Hardy Mill Road and Arthur Lane will be closed from Tuesday, May 7 for approximately two weeks, up to May 20.

Resurfacing works will take place on both roads.

The road closures will prohibit all traffic from proceeding on Hardy Mill Road from Brookfold Lane to Arthur Lane and on Arthur Lane from Hardy Mill Road to the borough boundary, to allow resurfacing works to take place.

Access to properties will be maintained, however there will be times during the works when access will be restricted.

During the works, residents are asked to keep the above roads clear of vehicles during the working day to enable the works to be undertaken.

The contractor undertaking the works will advise residents nearer the time.

Diversions and signage will be in place to make motorists aware of the work taking place in  the area.

“The bus route has been moved for the duration of the work, but the resurfacing work was well overdue.

“It is greatly needed because of the condition of the carriageway it has potholes, there are just so many sections along the roads which are just crumbling away.

“I know it is going to be a disruption but it is a little bit of pain for a lot of long-term gain really.

“We have also done a lot of temporary repairs on Longsight as well, so we have done quite well as a ward.

“It does need doing and it is a long stretch of road, and it was well overdue, there are holes on there like moon craters and the top surface was just disintegrating to end of life almost.

“So, to get it done, we are delighted it is being done, we just hope that residents understand that as much as there is going to be disruption, in the long term, it is going to be fit for a good ten years after that.”

Highways officials are advising people if waste or recycling bins are due to be emptied during the road or resurfacing works to present them at the nearest accessible point if vehicle access is prohibited, for example at the start or end of the roadworks.

This will ensure that bins can be emptied on the usual collection days.

Council officials say they want to apologise for any inconvenience the closures may cause.
